Beethoven
[edit]As far as I am aware there was no game released for the Mega Drive/Genesis called Beethoven. There was a game called "Beethoven's 2nd" but I think that was released on another platform.
missing "J.League Pro Striker Kanzenban"
[edit]its a enhanced game, but a different game, like different versions of Street Fighter II. maybe can be on the list.

consider to include "Sansan"
[edit]seems to be a program, but have a "Go!" game inside. need more studies. https://segaretro.org/Sansan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2804:7F0:E181:7B94:6D62:7676:FA41:A33C (talk) 17:49, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
[edit]This list includes licensed releases for the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis consoles. In November 2024, Sega and Paramount distributed 150 Sega Genesis copies of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (film) to various crew members and content creators. The cartridges included various Sonic 3 film related material and featured a small minigame where Sonic runs from Shadow. The ROM was created by developer Brielle Garcia (tacolamp) in the span of 4 weeks.
The copies that were sent featured Sega's seal of approval, the same seal given to licensed releases for the platform. Due to this coupled with the distribution being handled by Sega and Paramount, it is worth considering if this counts as an officially licensed release for the platform.
This list already includes releases such as the Blockbuster World Video Game Championship II which was never commercially released in stores so that should not be a factor to consider as a result.
Should Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (film) be counted on this list of licensed releases? Bro3256 (talk) 01:25, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- No, it's just a marketing thing. It's not an actual game, it's just promo stuff with some interactive bits to it. Sergecross73 msg me 03:40, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Several articles ([1][2][3][4]) note that the cartridge contains a "playable minigame". Most describe it as the highlight of the cartridge. I understand that the package as a whole is not a 'Genesis game' in the traditional sense but I don't think that's enough of a reason to warrant it's exclusion. At the end of the day, this is an officially licensed and distributed piece of Genesis software that contains gameplay, hence, Genesis game. Loytra (talk) 16:17, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I meant when I said "some interactive bits", some mini game among a bunch of promotional materials. If not for the gimmick of putting it on a Genesis cartridge, this wouldn't even be a question at all. No one thinks promotional interactive web browser/flash games would be considered as a franchise game release. Sergecross73 msg me 01:54, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- I agree it is a promotional item, but I disagree regarding the qualifications in regards to its game status cause there are dozens of software releases on this and other similar "game" lists on Wikipedia that do not qualify as video games, and if it did than Art Alive! would not qualify for this list since its a paint program and not a video game. Time of release doesn't appear to matter either as the list of Atari 2600 games includes a licensed release from November 2023. The SNES list has sections for "Championship games" and "Non-retail releases" which I feel this Genesis list should implement. Bro3256 (talk) 16:28, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hadn't noticed discussion had already been brought up for this release, I had just edited the page to add this title, only for it to be quickly reverted. Whoops!
- I feel it qualifies to be on the list, if only because it is- for all intents and purposes- a Genesis cartridge officially licensed by Sega. Any other reasoning not to include it frankly feels arbitrary to me, honestly- other titles aren't outright omitted from title release lists such as this for limited releases, nor for subjective quality matters such as whether the playable minigame segment included is 'good enough.'
- Whether or not it belongs on the main game list, I'm ambivalent on, personally- though I feel it'd be a bit silly to make a separate category that might only be occupied by this one title. I just feel it'd be remiss to actively exclude it from the page, considering it is an legitimate, officially licensed Sega Genesis cartridge release. Thanksolotl (talk) 05:14, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is a list of games, not a list of cartridges. This is just a promotional tool with a small interactive bit. I mean, come on, IGN describes it as "You can jump and move from left to right, but there's no real end goal and no way to win or lose." It's just a gimmick marketing promo. Sergecross73 msg me 11:41, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I mean, by that logic, then Nagoya Home Banking should be on the list, too. *shrug*. Let's not pretend this is the only cartridge that's not really a game. Red Phoenix talk 13:18, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Addendum: If there is support for it, I may not mind mentioning additional "cartridges" that are not games in paragraph form, akin to how I added a section describing additional hardware at the bottom of List of Sega arcade system boards, but I kind of think there needs to be more than two things to make that worth mentioning. Red Phoenix talk 13:27, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I've never reviewed the whole list for exceptions, nor would I recognize what what Nagoya Home Banking was in the first place, but I don't think we're falling into slippery slope territory here. This is coming out 25+ years after the consoles natural lifespan, it doesn't make sense to list it among the other Sonic titles from the 90s. The other editor was trying to add it as its own section alongside an unsourced entry, which is also a big no-no on a FL. Sergecross73 msg me 14:29, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it's fair to exclude it based on the console's "natural lifespan" - the SNES list still mentions titles like Star Fox 2, and as another editor said, the Atari list still includes recent releases licensed by the current Atari rightsholders. I personally don't see how being listed among the other original Sonic titles makes a difference here - whether or not it's 'worthy' of such, it's still a licensed Sega Genesis cartridge, no matter how minimal the content is, and leaving it off the page entirely seems like a flawed decision that deviates from how other console's game lists handle similar releases. Thanksolotl (talk) 01:26, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Looking at the SNES list, I notice there's a section for non-game software with two entries- perhaps that would be what best suits this release? Another editor mentioned Nagoya Home Banking as another piece of non-game software for the system, so such a section wouldn't consist solely of the Sonic 3 promotional cartridge. Thanksolotl (talk) 01:32, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. There's no particular reason to believe the SNES is particular handling it correctly either. It's not a WP:GA or WP:FA. Was there some sort of discussion or consensus there? Sergecross73 msg me 02:39, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't expect to make any headway against a site administrator who seems to have a vested interest in keeping this title off the list- I suppose I just don't understand why the default position is to leave it off, even if it is a new licensed Genesis release. Thanksolotl (talk) 04:01, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not...entirely sure what you're insinuating when you say "vested interest" in a situation like this, but I don't even regularly edit this page, I just stumbled upon the situation.
- As for why it defaults to "off", Wikipedia operates on a consensus-building process when disputes arise - see WP:CONSENSUS and WP:NOCONSENSUS. When content additions are disputed, it generally defaults to "off" until a consensus on how to proceed develops. That's where we're at. We don't have consensus on if it should be added, or if it is, where/how it should be added. Sergecross73 msg me 14:06, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm going to side with Serge here. This is a list of games, not cartridges. This particular publicity stunt is easily covered in the encyclopedia in the movie's article, just as Nagoya Home Banking is covered in Sega Meganet, as although it technically had a cartridge it was more about the modem. If "non-games" were a more substantial part of this console, I think it'd be a discussion, but with only a couple of entries I don't think it's substantial enough to warrant, especially when it's already covered elsewhere in the encyclopedia. Red Phoenix talk 15:34, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, yes, "publicity stunt" is the message I've been trying to convey. Sergecross73 msg me 15:49, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
