Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Edit warring by two editors to reinstate POV tags to the article despite a lack of consensus for the additional of those tags. TarnishedPathtalk 09:28, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Checking to see if protection is necessary. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 21:49, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. @TarnishedPath: Do not edit war and please follow the guidance in Template:POV before removing it again. There is no requirement to have consensus prior to adding a tag. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 22:18, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – persistent disruption. ZimZalaBim talk 14:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will leave CTOPS notice on talk Daniel Case (talk) 01:18, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Disruptive removal of band member from Personnel section. Also requesting page protection for the following articles for the same reason: Act I: Live in Rosario, Colours in the Dark (album) and The Shadow Self. HorrorLover555 (talk) 15:04, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Due to conflicting views in the community, many people vandalise this article to suit their own individual conveniences rather than the beliefs held within the majority of the Sikh community (for example, depicted mona sikhs rather than sahajdhari ones) 2A00:23C8:4B00:D301:A9DC:4B8F:F3DF:8CB7 (talk) 15:50, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 01:32, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Strange users keep reversing any edits about the ancentry of the admiral. His Serbian ancestry is absolute non-sense and is not confirmed by any source. Karadzic46 (talk) 15:55, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 01:34, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. BattleshipMan (talk) 16:12, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of six months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 01:38, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The article is within scope of WP:ARBECR, which states "this restriction is preferably enforced through extended confirmed protection". Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:35, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 01:41, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The article is within scope of WP:ARBECR, which states "this restriction is preferably enforced through extended confirmed protection". Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:36, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Honestly? This article hasn't been edited at all in a week and has seen hardly any attention in the past year. Its subject is also long removed in time from the present conflict. Daniel Case (talk) 01:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Users repeatedly recreating article despite AFD consensus to redirect. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:55, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 01:54, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The page called Tharavad has this guy keep deleting cited sources for no reason. Requesting Extended Protection for the page. Tnx. DravidianSingam (talk) 16:55, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 01:55, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. Chronic disruption of nationality of company, specifically it being changed to being Chinese by IP editors. Has been previously protected and has resumed since expiration. TylerBurden (talk) 17:02, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. Daniel Case (talk) 01:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Edit war between IP user and registered user, IP user unwilling to talk it to talk page. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 17:28, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 2601:405:8403:AFB0:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs) blocked by Ponyo. for 72 hours Protection is generally unnecessary in cases involving a single IP (or in this case a /64). Daniel Case (talk) 02:01, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ip vandalism. Mostly removal but a few BLP issues. Knitsey (talk) 17:56, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. Both IPs vandalizing the page blocked by different admins. Daniel Case (talk) 02:03, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The Wikipedia page for Ratan Tata has recently been subjected to frequent vandalism by new and inexperienced users. Given the significance of Ratan Tata’s contributions to industry and philanthropy, it is crucial to maintain the accuracy and integrity of this page. The ongoing vandalism is disrupting the quality of information and misleading readers. Therefore, I request that this page be semi-protected for a duration of one week to prevent further unauthorized and harmful edits. If the vandalism persists after this period, I would appreciate consideration for extending the protection. Ravi3270 (talk) 21:55, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Sdrqaz. until October 12. Daniel Case (talk) 02:04, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent death. JMHamo (talk) 21:57, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 02:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary extended protection: Persistent Vandalism. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 22:05, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of six months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 02:10, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP can't stop reverting sourced info. Not sure how to request a range block so not sure if that's better... Nswix (talk) 23:28, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of six months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 02:12, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. AntiDionysius (talk) 23:34, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will leave CTOPS message on talk, under AP rather than BLP. Daniel Case (talk) 02:19, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Some IP vandalism (not all of the recent IP edits, but several). GraziePrego (talk) 23:56, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Looks like it's being handled just fine for now. Daniel Case (talk) 02:22, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The deeply contentious nature of the topic means we're likely to keep having problems; like Western Sahara is protected, this should be too. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected indefinitely. I couldn't agree with you more that the Maghreb needs to be a CTOPS area as much as, and for the same reasons as, the Horn already is. But I don't have the time nor the familiarity with the topic to put together a request for ArbCom to make that designation. Daniel Case (talk) 02:27, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP user keeps adding further information about the Dundas renaming proposal without consensus. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:31, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 02:29, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Some weird sock-based vandalism thing going on. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:52, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 02:31, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – This surname page keeps on getting redirected by sockpuppets of Truthfindervert. GTrang (talk) 01:23, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: An event that has already passed, and mostly final infomation. Wikihelper910 (talk) 17:59, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikihelper910: This was protected under the auspices of a contentious topic designation (post-1992 politics of the United States) and cannot be unilaterally unprotected. Appeal at WP:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement or at WP:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 01:13, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
